Trad session
at The Cobblestone · Smithfield, Co. Dublin
Wednesdays since 1989. No cover, no ticket. Walk-in friendly; arrive before 21:00 if you want a stool.
Dublin has more pub sessions per square kilometre than anywhere else in Ireland. The Cobblestone in Smithfield, O'Donoghue's on Merrion Row, and Hughes' Bar on Chancery Street are the three you'll hear about most — but the city's session scene runs far wider.
The capital has a different relationship with trad than the rest of the country — it's simultaneously Ireland's biggest session scene and the one most at risk of becoming a tourist performance. The Cobblestone, Hughes', and the handful of Liberties/Smithfield pubs that haven't been redeveloped are where the real music is. Get there early or stand.
